I bought this recently

This was my first non-Asimov scifi book

I am admittedly only 3 chapters in, but I am having trouble with the unnecessary details and pretentious writing

It feels like the author has seen too many movies (which is surely the case, as this came out in 2000)

Omg yes, these are what got me into space operas as a teenager

Havent read sci fi from long time, this could be a good starting point
