What makes an account "inauthentic"? We're considering a new labelling system for inauthentic accounts. These accounts, often incorrectly called bots, will be hidden from like counts and other metrics in Warpcast. Inauthentic accounts give real people the ick because they're clearly trying to get value for their account at the expense of everyone else on the network.

We're looking for input from the community on behaviors that make an account inauthentic. It's important that the behavior is specific and deterministic, like: - follows 100+ users in 5 minutes - has the same pfp as 1000 other accounts - tags 100+ users asking them to follow them back. Please avoid suggestions that are subjective or hard to evaluate. - posts pictures copied from the internet (hard to evaluate) - posts slop or uninteresting content. (subjective)

Those who reply a ton of cheesy, unfunny comments a day just to get the weekly rewards By the way, maybe it’s just me, but don’t you think your interactions with the community come off a bit cold ?

The problem that was never solved is that large accounts always dominate visibility regardless of the content. I am a new account and I could post the best content that ever existed, only it would never be seen because followers/engagement trumps actual merit. I think that if visibility metrics were less follower focused, you would not see as much of this "race" to gain as many followers/engagement.

Rules on 'inauthentic' behaviour or spam label should be visible in profiles. Examples of "inauthenticity" 1. Emoji-only or few characters replies 2. High reply rate (e.g., 1/min) 3. No profile pic, bio, or ac verification Such accounts can be ranked lower, not hidden, allowing them to regain visibility by proving they're not bots.

@geoffgolberg you probably see patterns I never see. For example, I wouldn’t know if someone followed 100 accounts quickly. I only notice when they reply directly to my casts. But I’m sure you have many thoughts to add to this discussion.

I’ve seen a few cases of people copy pasting verbatim other people’s casts.

spend more time boosting authenticity than deboosting inauthenticity (not saying you arent already doing this) people appreciate even inauthentic algo boosts because they experience the algo failing them with important authentic posts and want to further signal the "importance" of some post as different from the norm

Rent-seeking accounts, really. Seeking attention while contributing empty calories at best.

So the spam label is being changed or it’s just an addition and posting uninteresting content makes someone spam?

groups of accounts that make agreements with each other to like/comment on their posts. every reply is some 1-3 word variation of “so true” / “good one” / “same” / etc. typically these posts get 1:1 comment:like ratios (or even higher) which stands out as abnormal. even the most popular accounts are closer to 1:2 - 1:4 for the average post.

- Replies that just paraphrase the original cast. - "Follow back" or "follow 4 follow" in a profile or replies. - Casts meaningless inspirational platitudes over and over again. - Low effort AI generated images in art channels. (Not to be confused with art by actual AI artists, so this one would be harder to detect)

This feels like a very slippery slope. I hope it is done right. In the most extreme cases you lose massive user count because you are nipping buds long before they ever have a chance to bloom. Why not give individual users the tools to deal with these people (blocking etc) and then leave it up to us to decide who we do and don't want to see? Bots are one thing but legit users being pushed down the feed for being tagged as "annoying" is not the right move

many spam accounts copy a cast word for word, often from a dev/founder who recently released a product e.g this cast https://warpcast.com/alexmasmej.eth/0x24879ba7

https://warpcast.com/ionoi/0x82820574 Neynar is broken, real people aren't viewed as real, accounts are sold and recycled. Authenticity should not include me performing a bunch of clicks button acts to make a robot happy. That's a trained monkey doing what you told it to. Which is the opposite of authentic. Bots and 'inauthentic' have overlaps on the venn diagram of bullshit. I would emplore you to think harder about this, because you're just putting a bandaid on stupid.

here is an easy one: after you reached a certain number of followers the following/followers ratio should be an indicator of how "authentic" your account is e.g., if you have 1k followers and 10k in following, chances are that you aren't adding much authentic value content to the platform but farming engagement
