Warpcast Experiment: Boosts! 

A boost gives your account more distribution for 24 hours. Each day, we'll give out 10 boosts to accounts that: 

- Have < 10k followers 
- Have casted recently 
- Have not received a boost recently
- Post bangers (manual judgement)

Why 10 boosts per day?

When you're boosted, your casts are being recommended to people who don't follow you already. A little bit of this is good, but doing too much makes the feed feel less personal. 

At the current DAUs, we can do about 10 per day comfortably. As Farcaster grows, we may do more.

How do you choose who gets boosted? 

Any algorithmic system will get gamed and result in junk being recommended to people. We have a heuristic that picks accounts for boosts and then we manually review their posts to see if its something that most people would enjoy seeing in their feeds.

Boosts give your casts more views, which should translate into more likes and follows (if you're writing bangers)

You'll get a notification when it goes live and you'll have 24 hours to use it before it goes to someone else.

By "use it" (in your below tweet), do you mean just casting while you have it?

would really love to have the 'cast boost' feature back for channel owners/mods. it could be 1 boost per day, week, or just flexible with an opt-in/out function for channel followers.

Could be interesting to give users the ability to boost other users’ content too

I know we have recasts, but maybe a different action that adds some additional weight in the algo could be useful - could perhaps revisit the channel boosts experiment?

There was a small startup called Google (or similar?) back in the 90s, which had quite a lot of success when they let people buy boosts for money ;-)

For Warpcast though, this feels like a sad day.

Quality casters are more important than quality users. Why?

* Network, not media - we should focus on forging bonds
* Casters are engaged users - casters w/ traction are likeliest to stay
* Quality casters are upstream of quality casts

Can we shower more engagement on smaller and new quality accounts?

First of all, yes. And second, users should get a Ki bar like in DragonBallZ Budokai so they know the are inching closer to Super Saiyan.... I mean Boosts. (obvs jk)
