Week of July 8th, 2024:

1/ Are We Past Peak Airdrop? The team discussed whether the value and influence of crypto incentives are waning, given economic shifts and increased skepticism. They questioned the continued efficacy of token economics in bootstrapping new networks and started to outline where the next wave of adoption may come from.

3/ Capital as a Moat: The team contemplated the unique financing challenges and opportunities in climate-focused hardware investments and frontier tech. They recognized that while advanced fundraising has proven challenging, effective founders could create a real competitive advantage from capital raised.

4/ From Developer Tools to AI Agents: Analyzing the historical success of developer tools like MongoDB and Twilio, the discussion shifted to current opportunities in the enablement layer for AI agent development tools. These tools can capitalize on how AI is transforming software development.

5/ Landfall in the Azores: The group celebrated the successful journey of their colleague @albertwenger , who sailed from Bermuda to the Azores. The voyage had good weather and the crew made good time. However, their biggest challenge may lie ahead as they could encounter a pod of delinquent teenage Orcas.

2/ Networks of Hardware: The team decided to analyze their approach to hardware. The group emphasized that investing in hardware and product categories, especially those tied to physical networks and real-world applications, could maybe provide a hedge against the commoditization risk in pure software investments.

It’s all about the quality of token use cases and creating real demand driven by needed value, not gamified antics.
