India is largely seen by the world from the lens of its colonial past which is hardly 300 years old. However, from the archaeological perspective, this land gave birth to the oldest civilization we know today. Land this old is intriguing to me and a lot of its heritage is fossilized by invasion in the last 1000 years, broken, damaged, and dusted...

(2/2) However, the "spirit of this land" is still living in the humans occupying the land. It is as if, the land itself is alive and creating its own culture through us. Anyone who lives long enough in this land gets Indianized. In this art piece, I am using a design pattern called "jharokha", the pattern is very old, and even experts aren't able to conclusively date it. However, surprisingly, this architectural design has thrived in times of extreme cultural genocide of this land. Everyone who came from outside unconsciously embraced it. I felt this design pattern truly represents the spirit of this land and reflects all its diversity. The drama created by the light represents the lens through which we see this land. The play of the font hides the depth and brings out 21st-century India in the forefront. However, without the other, both are incomplete. To embrace India, embrace it whole with its spirited past and the future in the making.
