New article on why now is the time to build delayed gratification into web3: - preserves intrinsic motivation - helps delay liquidity until projects are sufficiently decentralized https://www.flyingpenguins.io/p/tokens-of-appreciating-appreciation

- at scale, non-transferrable tokens of appreciation create a much needed reputation system Would love thoughts/feedback from the FC crew!

Building off of the “baking cookies” idea, it’s the thought that counts. A project can give tokens of appreciation, but minting is so trivial that there isn’t really work on the backend that makes it feel valuable.

Now, if we’re talking about a many-to-many situation, that’s more interesting. FC, for example, could have Reddit-like awards where user’s give them to other user’s. And, if users have to earn the awards they can give through usage, even better.

At least I would feel valued because whoever gave me the award spent time to bake the cookies…

Yeah totally. That’s why I think these tokens need to have value within a network before they can be interesting across networks. Eg retweets are a sort of token of appreciation that has specific value in Twitter’s network.
