Are there potential legal ramifications for consumers in the US using a VPN to access and make bets on polymarket?

I've always wondered if the reason they block US consumers is due to having to do due diligence to keep regulators off their back, but there is nothing to prevent or liability if a person on their own finds ways to circumvent the checks (I.e. in this case only the IP can be assigned a local).

Polymarket was fined $1.4M by the CFTC last year and CFTC just voted on new rules for prediction markets. Polymarket is like Nahhh miss me with that.
