Can you imagine a fashion statement so bold it was banned by law? In 16th-century England, the upper class flaunted their wealth with excessively long shoes called "poulaines." These pointed shoes could extend up to 24 inches beyond the toe! The lengths became so extravagant that King Edward IV eventually had to step in, declaring that anyone caught wearing shoes over 2 inches long would face serious fines. Who knew footwear could cause such a stir in history?
