Speech recognition changed medical transcription to mainly editing. And now my legal transcription work is being affected by AI. I'm determined to stay ahead of the curve.

Part 3: Admittedly, one reason I'm interested in web3 is monetization, but I'm not remotely there yet. I don't want to turn AI the enemy in my mind. Do you think it can be used ethically in writing and art?

MTs called the software speech wreck because it often butchered what...

...physicians were saying, and we would correct it. But the software improved quicker than we imagined. We thought our jobs were safe for another 20 years at least. Not!

I hope I'm threading this correctly. I don't know if I should number each piece like the bird app.

Anyway, the MT field is mostly cleaning up what the software spits out. Much of the easier jobs went out of the US and so the profession has dwindled. I realized that I needed to branch out to legal, insurance, financial, and law enforcement transcription since speech rec hadn't taken those fields over at the time.

But I use speech rec now to prevent carpal tunnel. Without breeching confidentiality agreements, I can only say that AI is emerging in the legal transcription field as it's a lucrative industry. There are also newer roles like digital court reporters. This, as you can imagine, is controversial for traditional...

...court reporters. From recent experience with AI-generated legal transcripts, it has a ways to go, but I foresee it quickly adapting and turning the field into one of a more editorial nature. There's a job title called Scopist, and they edit transcripts of court reporters.

I don't know how much it will affect the bottom line yet of court reporters, scopists, and transcriptionists, but I suspect greatly.

And I mean editorial as in what happened in medical transcription.  We'll be cleaning up what the software kicks out. Because right now, I'm technically creating a rough draft of a transcript and a final draft after proofing.

Part 2: I utilize voice writing (speech recognition), but it's AI that's coming for my job now. I think it'll be quicker to change the legal documentation industry than speech rec did to the medical field. I left my contract for one such job, but it was desperately disorganized and ended up having barely part-time work

I'll have to think on this. I like my work. I find NFTs & crypto gaming fascinating but not sure where to begin. I see that as a passive income side gig (rightly or wrongly). I'm enmeshed in side-gig mentality because I've been an independent contractor for most of my working life. Thank you for the question & support.

I spoke with a friend this weekend who has worked at blinkist Writing their summaries. Sounds like that job is going away too.
