Long form explanation of my sentiment around value extraction: https://paragraph.xyz/@trigs/mass-monetizing-social-media tagging in @danicaswanson and @abundance, as we've discussed the topics I address in here in great detail. Inspired by @macbudkowski and the /kiwi-news contest for Farcaster 2026.

Great article Trigs! My quick riff on that is that nearly every monetization model in the digital space today is either extractive or based on perverse incentives. I believe incentives are upstream from design, so if you're trying to build something prosocial without first building better incentives you'll inevitably either end up following the same extractive/perverse practices, or give up cuz you can't make your approach sustainable. My thesis is that decentralization/programmable money is the foundation to mechanisms that can align the common interest with self-interst (aka create non-extractive monetization models that benefit the common good), and if we build those everything else (how we design platforms to be more prosocial and not merely based on short term attention capture) will follow.

Insightful and beautifully written. I agree with the comment from @abundance 100% and have (reluctantly) come to similar conclusions. In financial systems that reward extraction, externalize costs, and penalize value creation, there are few if any satisfactory monetization models for content-driven and open source communities, period. It’s all hostile value capture, all the way down. As you wrote: “the people building the value-driven products aren't the ones winning in this scenario, ever, so the real products that actually serve people's needs don't get built.” In crypto we have programmable money legos, which I think *can* get us where we want to go. But it’s on us to build what we need, and that’s not easy to do. Glad we have people like Mike in this space. (1/2)

Cool! I'm working on something of my own in relation to the topics that have been discussed here lately, so I'm excited to read this. Bookmarked and will return to give it a read.

brilliant - encapsulates a feeling I’ve had on Twitter lately where I’m just low level mad and everything feels like a giant casino farcaster has a unique opportunity here to be a hub for those specific interests or at least provide a living lab to experiment in and help community members contribute, create and generate value beyond just PvP I’m going to keep this article in mind as I build out Frames this year and shift from thinking about users to considering what are the community jobs to be done

trigs! I have only read a small amount, and already, I love your organization and flow style. 🌀 so smooth and fluid while easy to digest. I am working within the system as I understand it and have the tools for. might I ask you to share how you organize your thoughts in such a flow? I would like to combine my fractured thoughts into one coherent experience. if you are able to, I would very much appreciate glimpsing this part of your workflow. 222 $degen
