The Science of Can and Can't is the most interesting book I've read this year. It's a pop-sci exposition of the quest to expand the domain of physics to the domain of counterfactuals (things that could be). The author developed constructor theory together with David Deutsch which is a formalization of these ideas.

If you're gonna buy this, it's also worth grabbing The Book of Why by Judea Pearl which is the AI counterpart to this book.

How else do I hint to a girl that I should use a bathroom freshener? Again, I apologize for this topic, but it's a real problem. My girlfriend seems to think she smells like violets and ignores the toilet freshener. I've been going back and forth and buying different flavors. I bought an automatic freshener, and I'm out of breath, but no such luck. She's scared of it because it sprays unexpectedly. Yes, I realize that it's our personal and it's not nice to bring it out and in general we should say it directly, but I can't do it directly... well, please help me without any nonsense.
