The power user badge should give a handicap to newer users. 

@dwr.eth  likes to say "if you don't like it here build your own client"... But you who's likely going to do that first? Last year's power users, not this years new ones.

The power user badge is far more achievable for new users than the active badge since it weights engagement from other power users.

The biggest mistake new accounts make is only top-level casting. Start by replying. Integrate into the community by joining conversations.

It would be a lot cooler if there were some transparency in how the power user badge is given out. Right now, those of us who don't have one have no real way of knowing what to do differently. It didn't really matter with the active badge, but now there are some actual stakes since power users get suggested more.

What I mean is that the algorithm isn't public. The only insight I have into how it works is the notion article, so there's no way for me to know if I
1. don't post often enough
2. don't post things that power users like enough, or
3. have somehow been labelled "spammy"

What additional transparency? 

It’s based engagement from other power users. There are 3000 of them. So not just a small number of people.
