TIL that Wordle was created by a guy named Josh Wardle (heh) & the code was open source. (Previously, he was also the guy who created the infamous Reddit /place!) Anyway, he made Wordle for friends & fam, they shared it and it went viral, he then sold to NYT for 6 figs despite the code being OS— you love to see it!

Ah, that may be the case. But yeah it was available and was cloned many times as a result.

Was it open source (licensed)? I thought it was just simple js that you could download and run yourself, so source available
