Remember how much most of Farcaster was worried about / scoffed at / looked down on / doubted early $degen? (I do, bc I felt that way.) And remember how quickly we changed our tune once $degen succeeded and got attention? And how it helped the network to a big growth moment? ^ This experience makes me much more humble about casting stones. Instead, I prefer to be open minded, give things a little time to play out, and — most importantly — do what I can to help out the builders who I believe in… with whatever they happen to be trying!

@stephancill - want to be clear this is not a dunk on your comment. In fact, your sharp and correct call out of CT made me see a bit of myself in them, and this felt worth acknowledging.

Realizing you don't need a strongly formed opinion in the first moments something happens is a super power on the internet.

The main issue I have with it is it being forced onto creators without them having a choice. Some of us just want to tokenize our art and have that be what collectors focus on - not speculative trading (ie: what originally tanked the NFT market in the first place)

True. But i also think another truth is that is pretty difficult not to have a cynical perspective after you’ve been in the space for a while. Been lied to, rugged, and used as “exit liquidity”, especially through marketing campaigns by influencers, so often on CT. I don’t want Farcaster to have similar vibes so i think people throwing up red flags or having a bit of cynicism might be useful? I know by even sending this cast, I’m kindve dunking on myself bc im proving your point, but Farcaster needs a bit more cynicism sometimes. And i think a lot of the critiques or dunks around content coins are more focused on questioning the promotion and marketing of them by one of the largest crypto companies in the world.

Completely agree. This is the mature way, we should keep our minds open and give new changes and opportunities a little time. No need to jump to conclusions so quickly! (Despite how i already feel about the whole thing)

I really got excited about degen 1) as a learning opportunity but 2) when it moved to become something more (gaming l3 or otherwise)

It’s wild how quickly sentiment shifts once traction hits. One day it’s cringe, the next day it’s canon. Real lesson here is keep shipping through the noise

100% with you on this. Not everyone will understand the vision beyond p/a. Half the world will only look at the p they make, they don't care for real life evolution. Benefit of doubt and empathy always.

but “$degen succeeded and got attention” in part because price went up… no? like i agree early experiments have a harder wall to break through but are critical to pushing us forward. with this logic, we just need a few content coins (that are high quality and ideally from a creator) to take off.
