As a piece of ancedotal data, the reason your "stunt" worked on me: You followed me -> This brought you into my notifcations -> This caused me to look at your profile -> Your profile is strong (Alliance is great) Without the strong profile and/or some good casts above-the-fold, I would not have followed back.
