people who donate regularly to charity or research: what organization(s) do you support and why? did you vet the org at all to be sure about how your money is being used? i want to start giving regularly but i’m not quite sure where to begin as having even worked at an NGO myself i know how funds aren’t always actually spent on the cause. i’d like to support reforestation or consciousness research or perhaps even art programs, or all of the above i guess the best approach is probably to find something in your community that you trust, but curious to hear from others on this!

I've set up an automatic monthly donation to a local dog shelter that I've personally visited (brought some dog food and old blankets, walked the dogs there) I think it's important to have an emotional connection like that, every time the donation is sent out from my bank account I remember those dogs and the people that make a huge effort to make their lives comfortable 🥺

I know that koh was working on a project called hand protocol with the idea of creating. decentralized charities. I am not sure at which point he is with the project but you can try to ask him. You can contribute also in forms of NFTs

agreed - donating to an org you trust in your community is a great way to get a pulse on how the money is used. my most consistent donation is to the food bank where i grew up. it's a small operation where i volunteered, and i trust the folks are still doing the work i saw them do 25 years ago

I have started donating to Social Income, which is an NGO that does direct cash transfers to lift people out of poverty in Sierra Leone. I trust them because of acquaintances and the tech they are using. (also it's tax deductible)

Local community is where I donate. Specifically food banks. Local charities are always strapped and personally I think making my local community is more motivating.

I donate to people directly. People who help cats and dogs in the streets and rescue them and put them for adoption. Why? They do an amazing job helping those who don't have a voice, they don't get any help from the government and they do what they do, only with donations from the people. They are transparent with their debts and the money they get, you can even go to the vet and ask to pay their bills. Anyways, consider donating to animal rescue organizations, please 🫶

local foodbank w/ track record. artists need to eat, kids need to eat, educators need to eat. often the people doing the most important work can need help. no one deserves food insecurity.

I found a girl on instagram, she is from Serbia, who started donation organization and she goes around villages or hospitals and visits elderly who are left alone by their families or have no one. she helped couple of families build houses. watching her story and with how much love she gives i could not not donate. I wish i could go with her but just watching i started to cry, idk if i could handle being there. She has registered company and shows people she is helping, she is our age and been doing this for 10 years.
