As if Americans built that or something, and most of it is un-navigable anyhow. You want something impressive, France built a canal system within its complex river system, and you can motor a boat from the English channel to the Mediterranean, passing through Paris. The French rail authority SNCF tried working with California to build high-speed rail (Europe still trying to help the former colonies along here), and the whole thing was so corrupt they bailed for Morocco instead. https://www.marketurbanism.com/2012/07/10/what-i-learned-today-about-sncf-and-california-hsr/
