The "onchain" narrative is a bit weird to me because it's like flexing about being "onAWS" or "oncloud"

A chain is only one part of your tech stack. In fact, having to compose everything onchain is an anti-pattern that emerged because light client support sucks

Offchain is more expressive, safe, and cost efficient

What does a product being onchain actually mean?

Farcaster is partially onchain since the account system is actually onchain. The content is decentralized but not onchain.

Are products whose content is fully centralized but connect to the Farcaster account system considered onchain?

I say no.

This was actually why I argued that Farcaster’s design is superior to Lens’ 

I don’t believe casts should be onchain. And if you want them to be there are ways to do that already. 

Ironically they are moving away from that now anyway via a zk rollup with off chain DA
