I have actually been quietly trying to replace more software that’s American-made with European alternatives. The toxic influence of American ideology on systems design tends to infect the very core of a product, leading to guaranteed enshittification. Even American open-source tends to come with an asterisk. What license? Will the only repository be quietly pulled down? Will it rely heavily on third party services that are not free or which face the same risks? As we are entering a new period of global conflict, this time with the US as the villain, it’s going to be important to think about not just what software you use, but who makes it, and what control they have over it. That said, there is room for American software, but only that which promotes user control, privacy, and truly open design.

This question often comes to my mind as well. In fact I’d really like to know who created Warpcacst, what its original purpose was, and who is actually controlling it.
