whenever i've tried to discuss the tech with ppl i know (also left-leaning), they get very defensive bc it challenges/potentially threatens the illusion of security they feel with the status quo (that they also complain about.) so the response is to point at the ponzis and the enviro as a way to shut the convo down

Yeah this is exactly my experience. All day every day it’s “the system is broken, banks are broken, governments are fascist, artists are exploited, voting is insecure, sending money abroad is impossible” and then you mention a blockchain solution to any of these and they’re like “sure bro”

it's like the old saying for them: "better the devil you know than the devil you don't" when i first got into this, i thought i could convince ppl overnight by demoing it through my own usage but i've learned that it's just going to be a slow process (i know ppl who still don't trust online shopping at all (⌒_⌒;))

I guess all we can do is keep showing them that it works and hope that one day it clicks

i kind of relate it to the illustration industry when the majority of illustrators were vehemently against digital art tools like graphics tablets and photoshop. slowly, digital became the dominant mode and the resisters either had to recant & adapt or be phased out (only the big names could afford to stay old school)
