A reminder for those who missed it. This very clear explanation (below) of how so-called “leftism” is bigger than communism and bigger than moneyless societies—with a subtle jab about how red scare propaganda has turned a generation of people into black and white thinkers—started an absolute war where Dan and a few other capitalism-fetichists just kept playing the “leftism is communism is death squads” card over and over again. It has been the most fatiguing 24 hours that has made me detest some folks I once set aside my differences with and enjoyed discussing with.

black and white thinker is an euphemism for casual notionist who tell themselves that they are well read. I've had teen students with more thorough preparation than your debate opponent. In my country there are plenty of rich cooperatives that generate revenue and redistribute it among the ranks.

A lot of the time people label mixed economies as “socialist” without being challenged on it. Then once that definition is established they argue against “socialism” as defined by state ownership of the means of production. Don’t go along for the ride. It’s just gonna go in circles until the wheels fall off.

I don't really get your original point. Since these constructions have emerged under capitalism, they are apparently an emergent feature of capitalism and not socialism.

Oh man fighting the battle of "Left ideologies CAN and SHOULD include money, revenue (etc.)" has to be so tiring. I don't even do it anymore tbh
