What's the de facto process for token ticker symbols these days? i.e. how do prevent collisions? How does it work across Ethereum vs. Solana? Is CoinGecko the loose consensus canonical source of truth?

I see a lot of people just referencing the contract address to avoid collisions you hear "what's the CA" more than "what's the ticker" these days
