Once Your boundaries have been violated in the past, you start to spend a lot of time being hypervigilant and erecting walls around yourself. A part of you wants to be understood but this fear overcomes this. It's a defense mechanism. An example would be that you wear a jacket when it's winters but you refuse to take off that clothing even when summer is here due to the perceived threat that your brain tells you that it's still a danger to take off that heavy Clothing. You spend a lot of energy being hypervigilant and that exhausts you.
