what makes /counter-strike so special?

imo, the amount of og supporters that remain and believed the culture was worth being a part of. counterstrike had many iterations, experienced broken promises by valve, had failed 3rd party projects come and go, the community scammed by foreign contributors... and yet... here. we. are. multiple majors a year. million dollar sponsorships. careers made and new paths of life inspired and flourish. 

what makes anything so special?

I have memories of LAN parties on week end where everyone came with their big unit tower and big CRT monitors at my friend’s parent garage. 

One router
Dozen of meters of cables
And go go go. 

It was the old time.
