making the app pretty is mostly a post pmf activity in my personal opinion. 

eye candies can almost never save the day unless the “ship” itself is starting to float already instead of staying leaky.

*does not mean it can be “ugly/unintuitive” though.

Design is about what something lets you accomplish. Consistently, predictably, with no more than one interpretation.

Aesthetics play a role, but I agree with this.
