why is a good tailor so hard to find 😭 I took in a dress to be hemmed last week, and my local guy returned it to me completely unaltered 

(I was like, "let me double check this real quick" and when I tried it on he was like "whoopsies") 

this after he returned a dress to me last year with only _half_ the skirt hemmed 😭

tailor update: he told me to come back the next day, so I did, and you’ll never guess what happened 

I came back the next day, and as I walked in the door his face fell 

“oh scheisse,” he said

ANYWAYS I get to try to pick it up again tomorrow

in his defense he did not actually say "whoopsies" 

because we are in germany, what he actually said was "ach so!"

oh interesting! so my feckless plea is actually rooted in a systemic problem.

Derek Guy talks about this a lot on Twitter. It's a apprentice trade, and fewer and fewer people want to grind in that type of profession.

Fewer and fewer tailors around, and the ones who are around are terrible.

It’s become a bit of a cottage industry where I am.  I found someone with a home studio and she does amazing work!

I have (once) successfully gotten another tailor to alter some pants, and she did excellent work, but she has like a multi-month waiting list :<
