potentially hot take (and i'm guilty of this too, i've done it, and now i will try to no longer do it): the more i see "answer my generic question and i'll tip you in degen" the more it feels like "i'll pay you to be my friend" energy

There’s been a few examples where I actually like this. It’s led to more diverse conversations. I did one asking how people are self improving and some of the answers were actually really good. It’s a good way to prompt content outside of the typical conversations that happen here.

Im a huge culprit of this lol!! Tbh I just want a quick way to distribute my degen to a large amount of people with low effort on both ends and no bias. Open to different ideas on how to tweak 😊

I generally offer to tip when asking for links or complex/technical questions. To me, it's at most a simple bounty. And at a minimum, a way of being polite for someone taking the time to link me / explain something. A hat tip if you will. 🎩

We’re spending time navigating this more and more with @ponder Im starting to think of it as a spectrum of polls. The more it’s fun/communal -> No paid The more it leans customer research (not fun) -> paid

could say the same about the ask generic questions era of early farcaster curious as to where the friend comparison comes in, ie if someone asks you a question and gives you an incentive to answer does that make them your friend?

This sums up how I feel. I mean, can't we all just agree we're here for the status and not the $$??? 😜 I'd rather get my 10 cents in warps than $1000 in degen. That being said there's something to be said about experimenting with new incentives and new social engagement mechanisms which is why I've been quiet

My first experiment in crypto was sending people tokens for going good deeds, called it Karma Points. And it only felt like that if you were actually rewarding responding like a friend would instead of actually doing a good deed. So maybe it depends on the type of question? Generic does seem like that energy maybe

Yeah, I agree as I see it more. Initially the novelty and excuse to tip is neat, but at it's core it is as you say I prefer the higher effort bribes "go like this tweet because I want to bring awareness to my cause and I have tips to pay" "go make some art" "go touch grass" "pics or it didn't happen"

Completely agree. Not really enjoying the farming aspect right now. For me, I just love to share my art. If people like it enough to tip me, I am grateful for that. On the flip side I love tipping artists, creators, and builders in this space for their work, but never w/ expectations of anything in return. 500 $degen

yes! I think we also need to capture more revealed preferences or engagement with profiles to spend degen

I like answering questions more when degen isn’t involved. Then I can think about it and answer later. With degen I feel I gotta answer fast before the tip runs out!
