one of my fav steve jobs quotes:

“you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. you have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.”

it has never felt as true as it does right now.

Stephen Wolfram said something similar in reference to computational irreducibility. You cannot shortcut your way to an end state, no matter how clever / powerful / prescient you and your computer are. You have to go through the computation one step after the other. Only in hindsight can you figure it all out in one go

After I listened to his speech, I found many cases in my life that I was connecting dots, but I just did not know back then.
