few weeks old bill gates AI article is now trending on X, thanks to @unusualwhales. are you team A or team B? A) AI will help humans work more efficiently and spur economic growth that leads to more job creation, or B) AI will change with most jobs look like across nearly every industry and destabilize workforce

it's B but the workforce will find other work and worst case get some form of ubi/war. almost every expert agrees/knows. long term it's net positive, short term painful. like all previous technological leaps

tbqh, I think Keynesian-style employment will become obsolete. but I also believe that we will learn to fill maslow's hierarchy while the markets retain premium. right now, many don't even bother with doctors and teachers, but they might consume more if their opiate of choice is an artificial companion that's both. construction & artisanal sectors are most lindy.

I know AI might be different, but do these same articles exist from 20-30 years ago about the Internet? At some point, there is a human preference element in that humans may want to be taught by human teachers/seen by human doctors, even if the AI is cheaper or even better

When AI replaces workers, it will be devastating. When AI replaces customers, it will be catastrophic.

The AI brain may be getting smarter but I think we are more than 10 years away from the level of physical integration with our world required for wholesale change to most human work. We still suck at building physical automation at scale that doesn't need constant human intervention

leaning towards A but with eyes wide open. we just have to prioritize reskilling and equitable access.

B. I've seen a lot of virtual assistants and designers getting laid off because AI can now do their jobs as fast as the human can. But not clean and as accurate when a human does it. Employers look for a way to decrease their expenses and that's when they choose to use AI instead of hiring real talents.
