strong opinion, somewhat strongly held: creatives don't want to create for "content traders" the word "trader" is inherently transactional — someone primarily seeking profit, optimizing for price movement without emotional or philosophical attachment to the asset itself idk a single creative who seeks that out

I agree with this take — but I think it's a false equivalence to say that coining content == *creating for content traders* secondary markets have existed for all assets, forever. this is true with paintings, NFTs, and yes, coins. and creators/artists have created for a mix of themselves, their collectors, and yes, people who have bought and sold their pieces. there has always been an inherent tension between who one creates for. coining content is very stigmatized because it has been historically something that *has* been transactional. but people said the same thing about open edition mints. and they said the same thing about uploading videos on tiktok and instagram. the thesis is that coining can serve as a better distribution channel *and* a better monetization channel for creators. it can do this because it can flow more freely and more people can participate. i think it's reasonable to disagree on whether you think that happens — but let's have that conversation, not be anchored to stigma.

yet all the tools continually being made for “us” (in web3) are all about what we never asked for. sigh. i get it though. a very very small amount of people want what artists create for what it is, and not what social status it brings them. it’s been humbling to realize how low that number is.

creative vs career creative making music vs being a music artist it's a proposal of a new monetization method, a career creative is always actively looking for this but yeah its very gaudy compared to the norm of just doing something you love and passively monetizing with ad revenue from ads you didn't have to sell

I’ve met many creatives who trade as a way to pursue their hobbies, as well as artists who invest in themselves w this mindset - many different folks = market the ability to identify and assume risk for gain is one of the most rewarding games out there greed for lack of a better term is good not gonna say that it doesn’t feel/come off as gross at times though

agree w this as a newer photographer putting photos onchain the incentives would need to materially greater for me to want to participate fully in a “coin” based art system, time will tell if they are, guess it depends where the collectors go - anything possible as to where best distribution is longterm even as a collector, i want to own the photo/art itself versus owning a fractional coin that represents it, personal preference ultimately the goal is to find the ppl who value my art and want to collect it, not trade it actively, i want to establish connection w these ppl on fc even if small as of now, would prefer time based mints where ppl own the actual photo itself, or even open editions, preferably the creator gets to choose number available, time, etc lastly, i’m not sure the exact earnings splits rn across each platform but i believe they’re still fairly high. obv improvement over trad social, but i imagine these will continue to come down so more of the value accrues to the creator

yeah this is on point. that's one of the issues moving from NFTs (1-1, unique) to abundance (first with high editions numbers, open editions) and now with coins (1B supply). No "artist" is interested in this I am interested in this because coins could be a good distribution mechanism for my written content-podcast (to reach more people), but not for artist or creatives that don't care about distribution I don't think so

Agreed. I think this is why we’ve seen artistic drop off with creating digital assets. There’s a misalignment at the moment Not inspired to tokenize things lately, Or maybe it’s just me 🤷‍♂️

counterpoint: framing is everything, or, all content is ephemeral anyway *shrugs* trad-social creators are being farmed by advertisers while they themselves farm their fans for revenue from said advertisers. all the incentive is on the creator and advertiser, the fan's only incentive is enjoyment of the content. web3-social levels the playing field a bit and enables the fan (buyer in this case) to take part in the upside of the creator's efforts while the creator still enjoys the lion's share of the revenue and attention. maybe "trading" just needs better storytelling.
