respect to Sam and what he has accomplished in bringing AI into this new age in a very real way. but monopoly in the name of “safety” gives me the same ick SBF gave me. i can’t shake the opportunistic, self-interested vibes. beyond an endorsement from PG, what has he done to earn our respect and admiration?

I can see that ick. Tbh I think his writing is generally v helpful (which I may overweight as valuable as a writer myself) I've also heard good things of him from ex-YC folk, but in this circumstance I think the exhortations are v disingenuous. https://blog.samaltman.com/the-strength-of-being-misunderstood
