i made a kinda dumb cast month or so ago that i didn’t respect anon accounts that have nothing to lose so they attack people. i should’ve been more nuanced. i think pseudonymous accounts like roon, daniel, formerly beff jezos are essential to growing a social platform — and farcaster needs them. are any here?

I take your original point in good faith though. There are some people who go create anon accounts purely to be assholes. And I have zero respect for them. While there are others who are anon because it’s a part of what they’re building and who they are.

I don’t know the answer but am wondering looking back at history and major social change… how much does anonymity play a role over privacy and secrecy? I feel anonymity is not as great as some make it out to be.

I was at Google during "The Nymwars", there was nonstop debate about this based off vibes but ultimately the data didn't support that anons behave worse than Real Names. Personally, the most indicting experience was seeing how NextDoor real name neighbours with pfp's of them+kids will behave to their peers. Just wow.
