I just want a secure/simple linux distro just to do browsing and defi using Chrome or Chromium and web wallet extensions. no Vpn/tor needed. permanent installation on a laptop. any distro recommendations?

You could try Mint: simple lightweight OS with no fluff n stuff. Easy to use and install.

I believe Fedora Silverblue would be a good choice.
