On a different note, but kind of related, I hope one day to see a US, where the price we are quoted is what we pay. I understand tourists’ confusion why in most states on most items, the price comes out to at least 5% more. Price quoted is the price one should pay. This is a uniquely American thing that we do that is bizarre and misleading to the consumer.

💯 and those servers remember who doesn't tip well. I always tip at least 20% regardless of service just because of how the U.S. tipped wage system is set up. They *need* those tips, and if I can't afford to tip well, I can't afford to eat out because I try really hard not to be the sort of person who tries to justify exploiting someone else's labor for my comfort.

Regarding Vitalik’s post, I always tip 20% but if the service was really good, I’ll tip, so yeah, some of us actually do factor quality of service. But I do have one hard rule (now). If I have to give you my order while standing, I’m not tipping.

😂 funny, I only go twice to places I tipped well. Although I always tip minimum, I increase depending on service because I believe that encourages servers to step up their service, which is their job. Funny thing is when trying to tip a first class flight attendant, they all get offended like dude we make enough money, which is not the case at your local bar, so we all must tip serves 👌🏽
