Happy weekend farcasters!
Hawa Mahal, also known as the "Palace of Winds," is a structure located in Jaipur, the Indian state of Rajasthan. Built from red and pink sandstone, it is one of the marvels of Rajput architecture. Its fascinating history dates back to the 18th century.
This palace was constructed in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. The latticed (jali-style) windows allowed the royal women to observe street scenes without being seen themselves, in accordance with the customs of seclusion for women prevalent during that era.
Hawa Mahal, consisting of five stories and 953 windows, is designed in such a way that it allows excellent air circulation within the palace, which is why it is called the "Palace of Winds." Even during the hot summer months of Rajasthan, the breeze passing through the windows creates a pleasant cooling effect inside.
Today, Hawa Mahal has become one of the major tourist attractions of Jaipur, astonishing visitors from around the world.
