Blue TGV
When flying over the river, the kingfisher can reach a top speed of 45 km/h. And when it touches the surface of the water, its body transforms into a streamlined torpedo that dives at a speed of 2 to 4 m/s. This successful transition from air to water inspired Japanese engineers. They had to design a TGV that would have to pass through many tunnels where the air pressure increases abruptly. The manufacture of a locomotive with a profile directly inspired by this bird made it possible to reduce the electricity bill by 10% while increasing the speed of the train by 15%.
