As I grow older, I realize how much my youth shaped my worldview and how it is increasingly becoming difficult to change or form anew I find myself fused (often irrationally) to them in different ways, esp when it comes to ideas / rituals that are close to who I am I am surprised to find myself not disliking that

I think about this a lot; I think realistically it’s more of a diminishing curve, but when do you think the “cutoff” age is for an intelligent person who intentionally tries to push their limits?

Your reply reminds me of King Lear - when he finally sees through his clouded judgement and his tragedy: “Pray, do not mock me. I am a very foolish fond old man, Fourscore and upward, not an hour more nor less. And to deal plainly I fear I am not in my perfect mind. Methinks I should know you, and know this man.”
