As I grow older, I realize how much my youth shaped my worldview and how it is increasingly becoming difficult to change or form anew I find myself fused (often irrationally) to them in different ways, esp when it comes to ideas / rituals that are close to who I am I am surprised to find myself not disliking that

I think about this a lot; I think realistically it’s more of a diminishing curve, but when do you think the “cutoff” age is for an intelligent person who intentionally tries to push their limits?

Your reply reminds me of King Lear - when he finally sees through his clouded judgement and his tragedy: “Pray, do not mock me. I am a very foolish fond old man, Fourscore and upward, not an hour more nor less. And to deal plainly I fear I am not in my perfect mind. Methinks I should know you, and know this man.”

I think that's a great connection. I see this showing up in not just people but in organizations, shipping their people's worldviews and org charts in their products. They either see their own tragedy and strive to improve, or slide into gradual decline and be replaced by the new – this shows up all the time.
