Holy shit, I’ve spent almost 60 hours doing Duolingo this year.

Estoy conversacional ahora, pero creo que es una combinación de varios factores, no exclusivamente por Duolingo.

(Conversational now, but that’s as much being immersed in Spanish speaking countries and entertainment as anything)

Duo is a great intuitive tool to teach and reinforce grammar and vocab. But it won’t get you beyond “restaurant language”. You’ve gotta push yourself to go further.

I waffle on streaks occasionally (good for months and then suddenly stop). At some point I feel like the gamification has tricked me to keep going when I really wanted a break.

Finally, Duo is good because my whole family uses it and we can stack rank against each other’s efforts, irrespective of actual language level
