I was surprised at the lack of critical content around the obvious Muslim / Arabic origins of the Fremen in Dune They're both in the movies and the books, but whereas the latter makes no excuse for using terms like hajj and jihad, the movies are oddly sterilised https://inkstickmedia.com/erasing-arabs-from-dune/

Herbert spent something like 7 years world building before he even started writing Dune. If you extend humanity forward by 10k years, you may end up with some essence of religion, but something that still looks different to today. Plus it’s a new planet, far out in the galaxy. Telephone gave for religion over many many generations and space. Plausible…

Oh yeah the books are different, totally with you on that. The "islam extrapolation" is pretty cool actually The movies are problematic But what was really weird to me was the lack of discourse around it - like am I the only one who noticed it?
