Why do militaries or soldiers follow what dictators say? 

For example, what is happening in Venezuela. I’m sure the soldiers have families who are ready for a change as well. Is it as simple as “obedience”?

Fear of retribution and inertia imo.
It's easy to be swayed in the direction of your immediate company, which for soldiers is other soldiers.
It's hard to take action when you're suddenly presented by two existential choices.
