The entire tetralogy would take around 750k words to tell, I’m guessing, so about 5-6 months writing four hours a day. Again, there are many ways to cut that time in half, especially if I really just do not care about quality, brainstorming as I go, or second-guessing myself. That’s what rewriting is for.

Alright, today’s Thursday, I can spend the next couple days getting the outlines organized and then start on Monday with the actual writing. Split each day into four hours writing, four hours brainstorming & worldbuilding and produce about 140k words per month. More if I don’t care too much about the quality.

But now I definitely know where to take the story. I have enough “waypoints” set up to where I probably won’t get lost. And in order to make up for lost time, I have the luxury of sparing 7-8 hours a day working on it 🤔

Back in 2018, I decided it made more sense to focus on writing for 7-8 hours every Sunday instead of an hour every day, or two hours four days a week, etc. After a month I had a decent attempt at a first draft (30k words) but then gave up on it, because I didn’t know where to take the story.

things were going great, brainstorming-wise, so i had no business trying to flip coins all of a sudden. of course the muses had a problem with that.

i'm assuming this is retribution handed down from the muses, for not focusing on the tetralogy, so like...okay...i'll get back to it...jesus....

lost exactly 54.5% of 1,000 flips but hey, at least it wasn't 57.4% of 700 flips again :>

The writer’s job is to make them interesting decisions with interesting consequences.

It’s not exaggerating to say that characters are the only thing that matter in a novel. Plot is a function of character, not a distinct entity. The plot is nothing more than the characters dealing with the consequences of their decisions.
