Luckily the SS isn’t around anymore to enforce such improper form I think this sort of explanation is pedantic. You’re resting on the technical rather than the emotional to provide flexibility here, too black and white. There’s no spectrum to a heil? It’s either perfect form, or he didn’t mean to do it at all? It’s hard to think of an equivalent or an analogy to reframe this but once I do, I’ll come back here and share it
