Federer often cites data that he won some high % of games/matches but just over 50% of points Right now I’m winning ~50% of points but losing too many games/matches I’m re-reading The Inner Game of Tennis but would love to hear ideas you have to close more games out?

Curious to hear how many games get to deuce stage. As that's so critical Cc @askgina.eth for a concrete list of steps to close games out

It comes down to how you play the paints at different stages of the game itself. An example is playing aggressively at 40-0 and 0-30/30 while playing more conservative at 30-30/Deuce. Also winning the first two points of every game goes a long way

The book “Winning Ugly” by Brad Gilbert has good advice. I also recommend the app Apeak Tennis, where you can find specific visualizations to help your game.

I'm a lover of the game but not a coach. I think you need to win the important points, win your serves and be a decent returner too.

The mental fortitude required to win a tennis match is like nothing else. Total mind fuck. Probably something to work through with a therapist more than a coach. Wish I had done that when I played in high school. I always got worse as the match went on.

Depends - are they on your serve? At higher levels, players have certain patterns of play they can resort to in tight situations to maximise their win percentage (serve wide and 1-2 punch down the line for eg) Try to find sth that works well to your strength, and use it during tight points
