lots of people seem to think that paying for storage on farcaster means that they won't see ads or be exploited like in web2 1. this money does not fund farcaster apps 2. while there is no serious competition for client diversity there is no inherent reason why this type of exploitation won't happen on warpcast

A % of Storage fees could also easily be pumped into moxie to reward quality content, frames developers, app developers — with non gameable criteria

could u see clients taking a cut of onchain economic activity flowing through the app instead of ads?

@ben- and I also discussed something related to that recently. essentially, the only thing that prevents warpcast from web2-like behaviour atm is a 'social contract' between them and the current user-base (as he put it). the same contracts that also existed between facebook and twitter and it's 'early ecosystem' - and we all know how this played out.

I think more projects are going to exploit DC for ads. It could also be well targeted, considering all the data is easily scraped.

I never thought it like that. You mean there could be ads on here?

the opposite to be honest. It's very difficult to extract meaningful data from Twitter after the API change for example. On Farcaster you can farm a lot more datapoints - social media, financial interest and transactions connected to it etc. This is a goldmine for some thirsty data brokers and sketchy marketers

The thing is storage fees do not fund hub operators either! Basically no incentive to host data if you do not have your own user onboarding pipeline.

Does it just fund the space? How is farcaster funded? VC money, but what else? @dwr.eth - what is your take on this

I am more intersted how ads can be taken to another level here. Or better, how to create a system for "promoted casts". In-frame shopping is there for the taking.

There should be better ways to protect people from exploitation, Even though by nature it seems like people default to extracting from others. Exploitation is a byproduct.
