Why are TikTok users choosing to migrate to Rednote as opposed to Instagram reels? https://x.com/PopBase/status/1878869332018737253

People hate Instagram Reels so much.... Rednote is way closer to Tik Tok - and I think an element of it is sticking it to the US govt.

Because Zuckerberg is following in Musk's footsteps by removing fact checking, but also those who would use reels already do and secondly it's a rebellion against the US government banning tiktok for being Chinese... So they all join the most Chinese app they could find 🤣

Rednote is really good though - lots of good content not just pretty pictures, and you can use it like google when you want to find info like restaurant reviews.

One angle I heard that I haven't considered: Instagram reels have much more Western-centric censorship, e.g. Palestinian content is/was almost completely purged. TikTok apparently doesn't censor that kind of stuff (obviously they do Chinese-related things but less Western-centric stuff). Which may also explain some of the pressure against TikTok from the US.

Subtle difference between being tied to a social graph and being an entertainment platform has on what you choose to amplify in feed. A living built off of TikTok virality is on quick sand on Reels

These chinese UX don't have an internal ideology but that the customer (and stakeholder wink) is king. Westerners can't comprehend.

I think mostly due to how successful TikTok has made some content creators. A lot of them may also do reels on the side but after experimenting they know they’ll do much better on TikTok, so makes sense that heard mentality kicks in when the alt gets traction
