gm fellow casters. For the engineers out there, if given the choice between a take-home exercise and a live coding interview, which would you choose?

Take home for sure. ✨ IRL prob takes less of the applicant's time, but damn can they be stressful - + I have yet to experience a whiteboarding interview reflective of the work (almost all involved recursively implementing some algorithm in front of ppl - diff skillset imo).

As a follow-up, would having to do a live coding interview make you decide not to proceed with an interview process? I ask because I'm seeing candidates choose the take-home option and then not complete it so I'm considering getting rid of the option.

Personally, if I knew the role/was excited about the company - totally not a deterrent. Haven't given this too much thought, but there are probably kinder ways to approach this format, as well. Even just giving a few more details so people can prepare.
