"As the language of the digital has become increasingly pervasive, we tend to associate the word “programmed” with the use of digital technologies. Yet throughout the history of art, artists have used programs—rule sets and abstract concepts—to create their work, employing mathematical principles to drive forms and ideas or establishing rules to explore structures and colors." Histories of the Digital Now - essay by Christiane Paul, for the "Programmed" exhibition, 2018 https://whitney.org/essays/histories-of-the-digital-now

One of the few times I have seen code based work exhibited in a museum space, which as a museum goer in Feb 2019 seemed strange to me. Code Profiles, 2002 and 2018 by W. Bradford Paley was so notable to me I took a snapshot of it. Six years later, outside of the Web3 exhibitions, who is exhibiting work like this? 💫

there's also 'programming' for content . in french for example they say 'programmation' for performances . personally the daily art making i do always involves setting up a program for what i do daily for the entire year . half the fun is figuring it out .
