I’m a fan! I think the challenge with all of these obviously is getting the initial fly wheel going.

I am noticing that the most successful new ideologies of the past decade are very object-level (prescriptions on specific issues) and quite little meta-level (social processes for making decisions on object-level issues). Examples: * Abstract libertarianism feels much weaker than 10 years ago. But issue-specific versions of it are quite successful: YIMBY (housing), the crypto space * e/acc (it's about all technology in theory, but ends up being about AI in practice) * The largest cluster in effective altruism morphed from being meta-level ("think harder to making sure your donations are going where they can do the most good!") to object level (AI safety, with a little bit of animal welfare and global public health) * Longevity movement Maybe network states and Glen and Audrey's Plurality movement are two exceptions - but in general the above feels like a strong pattern. Any ideas why this meta level -> object level shift seems to be taking place?

I think signing up for a job for 4.5 years and signing up for 100 days can be different things. Think of sports - you can often see players retire because they don’t want to sign up for another season or World Cup or whatever. But I’m sure they can go for another 3 months.

Twitter is upstream of all other social networks for "the discourse". All the "shadowy cabal chat groups" are 80% "post link to tweet and discuss". Only way to "beat" Twitter is play a different game. New composable primitives powered by crypto (which make it harder for incumbents to copy). Channels that enable cozy corners yet are public, permissionless and composable.

One big difference is Warpcast != Farcaster. So if someone doesn’t like the algorithmic choices here , they can build another client of their own. Something impossible with any web2 platform.

Agree. I love the boldness of some of the ideas here but just didn’t get all the way there. Tells you how amazing Dark Knight was to beat an amazing movie like Batman Begins.

Furiosa review + Helmsworth. He chews up every scene + The novelty and execution of 'road war'. Anytime the war rig is on screen, things are intense + Some hilarious lines "competent and excessively resentful". + Miller loves building mechanical contraptions + Anya Taylor Joy doing Theron's voice + Maybe one of the most creative/dark ways a bad guy is killed off. - It felt unbalanced, too much time before ATJ shows up. - the music is disappointing. None of the pounding theme we loved from Fury Road - Lacked that certain style/flair (the guitar guy) from the first movie. - Not sure ANJ has the same presence for this as Theron did. Maybe impossible to live upto hype from Fury Road.

I’ve met the real life counterpart of most of these characters ( well, except the <spoiler>). It just rings true.

Movie disappointment of the year : “Civil War”. Nihilistic, sort of…basic. Outside of Plemons, very forgettable.
