would argue this is the way it has always been, as you point out with a 1930s article on dinner parties high value small discussions are the constant, the tool / software to facilitate them is what has evolved

exactly my takeway from reading is actually “tightly knit, small groups rule the world”… as they always have even in middle school when i was “popular, my girlfriends had AIM group chats + calls does this feel novel to other women? we are the more social / tribal gender so maybe that’s why it isn’t fresh
